Sensei Brian Hinchliffe, 8th Dan, is the Chief Instructor and Founder of the UK based Goju-Ryu Karate-Do Ho-Ei Juku, a karate organisation practicing the most complete, old-school Martial Art of Goju-Ryu Karate. Brian’s training started with Judo in 1972 and Karate in 1973. He then opened his first club, the Blue Tiger Karate Club, in Hastings in 1985. Sensei Brian has received his Dan grades directly from Japan, where he first went in the 1980s as part of an England Karate team. During the first visit to Japan, Sensei Brian met Kancho Tada (1926-2013) of the Seishikan, whose teaching has been followed ever since. Sensei Brian also spent time teaching karate in Japan in the early 1990s. At this time, he met Sensei Morinaka (1929-2013) of the Ho Sei Juku, who also became a long-term teacher and influence of the Ho Ei Juku. Sensei Brian is a Director of the All Japan Martial Arts Federation, Nihon Seibukan Dojo of Kyoto and head of Karate UK for this organisation. With an early career in Sport Karate, he won Karate and Kick-boxing titles in the 1980s and 1990s, including English Karate Champion for kata, kumite and weapons in 1984, 1991 and 1992. In search of the best instruction, Brian travelled the world, training with many top Japanese Masters, training, competing and teaching seminars across Europe, the USA and Japan. Sport Karate is no longer the main purpose of the training within the Ho-Ei Juku as Sensei Brian continues to teach Okinawan Goju Ryu Karate in the path laid down by the All Japan Martial Arts Federation, Nihon Seibukan Dojo of Kyoto.
