Well we're all back safely from this year's 25th Anniversary Martial Arts Festival in Kyoto and all the training and sightseeing done in Nagoya, Kyoto, Himeji, Osaka and around the Kyoto area. The Ho Ei Juku demonstration went down a treat with iaido and karate performed at the famous Butokuden in Kyoto. Massive thanks to Nakano Sensei, Izumi Sensei, Tada Kancho, Kawano Kancho and Uchiyama Hanshi for all they did. We met so many great people and already can't wait for the next chance to go to Japan...

OK now we are training in the Kenilworth club once a week and people are progressing at different rates, we're reverting back to the system of taking gradings that we had in Sussex years ago. This worked well for a very long time. You'll still need the relevant attendance since the last grading, a valid member's licence book, an application form and relevant fee, so the changes are this;

1, the application form will also need a counter-signature from one of the dojo assistant instructors - black belt applications will need at least a 3rd Dan to sign it.

2, you'll be able to apply to take a promotion test at the last session of any month, as long as the above criteria are all met and the application form is submitted at least a week ahead to allow for time to be allocated.

This way, people who are working hard, attending our special Sunday sessions, practicing in their own time and so on, can be able to progress at the appropriate rate for their efforts. Keep up the hard work and aim for your next goal in karate.....

If you've not had a recent newsletter, or lost it, then please note that the karate classes will continue until the end of July and stop for the whole of August. We will be back to training on Friday 2nd September when Sensei Brian and Sensei Adrian will be performing a short demonstration to all present. This will be a presentation of the things we will be showing at the annual All Japan Martial Arts festival in Kyoto in September and includes karate and iaido (Japanese sword) performances. Be there on 2nd September to see it all...

I am delighted, after Vance and Chris have put in literally decades of dedicated training and devotion to Goju-Ryu and the Ho Ei Juku, to announce that Vance has been promoted to 7th Dan Kyoshi and Chris has been promoted to 6th Dan Kyoshi within the Organisation. Very well deserved and looking forward to working together with both again soon on the forthcoming events.

The next Karate club grading at the Kenilworth Dojo is scheduled to be on Friday 27th November 2015, starting at 6:30pm. Please make sure application forms, membership booklets and fees are submitted in advance. Also check the syllabus in the training manual in the downloads section if you are unsure what is expected of you - and ask if you have any questions...
